Manaslu Expedition Overview & Highlights

Manaslu Expedition (8163m) – The Mountain of Spirit.

The Mount Manaslu (8,163m) is the 8th highest mountain in the world, located in the west-central region of Nepal within the breathtaking Mansiri Himal range. Known locally as “Kutang I” and “Kampunge Himal,” its name is derived from the Sanskrit word “Manasa,” meaning intellect—hence it is also called the “Mountain of Spirit.” This majestic peak offers one of the most rewarding and less crowded 8000m climbing experiences in Nepal.

The first successful ascent was made in 1956 by a Japanese expedition team led by Toshio Imanishi and Sherpa Gyaltsen Norbu via the North-East face. Since then, several routes have been explored, with the south face considered the most challenging. Today, the Manaslu Expedition is often chosen by climbers as a preparation peak before attempting Everest, due to its high success rate and diverse climbing terrain.

The journey to the base camp is equally spectacular, passing through traditional villages such as Soti Khola, Machha Khola, Jagat, and Philim. Trekkers experience rich local culture, dense forests, and dramatic Himalayan landscapes before reaching Samagaun for acclimatization. A visit to ancient monasteries and interaction with local mountain communities makes the experience even more special.

From the base camp, climbers establish multiple high camps (Camp I to Camp IV) across snowfields and steep ridges. With the support of experienced Sherpa guides, fixed ropes are used to navigate icy sections and technical slopes leading toward the summit. The final push rewards climbers with breathtaking panoramic views from the top of the world.

The best season for the Mount Manaslu Expedition is autumn (mid-September to November), offering stable weather, clear skies, and safer climbing conditions. Spring is also a good alternative season for expeditions.

We are now accepting bookings for Manaslu Expedition 2026/2027 along with other major Himalayan peaks including Himlung, Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, Baruntse, Mt. Everest, Annapurna I and Lotse .
