Trip Overview
The Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return takes you from Kathmandu to Lukla. From there, you trek through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche to reach Everest Base Camp. In Kathmandu, you stay in top hotels like Dwarika’s Hotel or Hotel Yak & Yeti. In the mountains, you stay in upscale lodges like Mountain Lodges of Nepal and Everest Summit Lodges. This means good food, warm rooms, and hot showers, even at high altitude. Depending on the season, you fly to Lukla directly from Kathmandu, or drive to Manthali first and fly from there. Along the trail, you visit Sherpa villages and walk through Sagarmatha National Park. You also see the famous Tengboche Monastery and close-up views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and Thamserku.
After Everest Base Camp, you wake up early and climb to Kala Patthar. This is the best viewpoint for sunrise over Mount Everest. Instead of walking back down, you take a helicopter flight from Kala Patthar to Lukla. This saves two to three days of walking. It also gives you amazing views of the mountains from the air. You get time in Kathmandu at the start and end of the trip for sightseeing, rest, and a farewell dinner. This trek is a great choice if you want to reach Everest Base Camp with two full acclimatization days built in for safety, without extra days spent walking back. It suits couples, families, and small groups. With regular departures and a special group discount, it promises a well organized and unforgettable Himalayan experience.

Welcome to Nepal. One of our officials will greet you at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, upon your arrival and take you to your 5-star hotel in a private tourist vehicle. A pre-trip meeting will be held and you will meet your trip guide, so make sure to confirm any queries about trekking in the mountains.
Note: The pre-trip meeting will be held at our office if you arrive before 4 pm, or at your hotel if you arrive later in the evening. Be sure to bring two copies of passport-sized photos and a readable copy of your travel insurance policy to the meeting, as these documents are needed to acquire trekking permits during the trip. You will also settle the remaining balance of your invoice and sign the trip form and non-liability disclaimer. In the evening, join us for a welcome dinner and trek briefing to kick off your journey toward the Khumbu region.
- Route: Tribhuvan International Airport → Hotel, Kathmandu (private vehicle)
- Altitude: 1,400 m
- Accommodation: 5-star hotel, Kathmandu
- Meals: Welcome dinner
- Highlights: Airport pickup, pre-trip meeting and permit paperwork, welcome dinner and trek briefing
Early in the morning, you will take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. During peak trekking months (March, April, May, October, and November), this flight may operate from Manthali (Ramechhap) instead, about a 4 to 5 hour drive from Kathmandu, because of air traffic rules at Kathmandu airport. Our team will confirm your exact flight routing in advance.
After landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, you will meet your porters and trekking crew over breakfast. From here, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi River downhill through small Sherpa villages, forests, and settlements such as Chaurikharka and Ghat before reaching Phakding, a peaceful riverside village where you will spend the night.
- Route: Kathmandu → Lukla (flight) → Chaurikharka → Ghat → Phakding (trek)
- Altitude: Lukla 2,840 m → Phakding 2,610 m
- Accommodation: Standard lodge, Phakding
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
- Highlights: Scenic Himalayan mountain flight, first steps on the Everest trail, walking along the Dudh Koshi River
From Phakding, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi River, crossing it several times on suspension bridges decorated with prayer flags, including the Hillary Suspension Bridge near Namche. You will trek through beautiful pine and rhododendron forests, and after entering Sagarmatha National Park at Jorsale, where your permits will be checked, the trail climbs steeply.
If the weather is clear, you will get your first distant view of Mount Everest along this climb. The trail continues up to Namche Bazaar, the famous Sherpa capital and gateway to Everest, where you will stay for two nights.
- Route: Phakding → Jorsale (Sagarmatha National Park entry) → Namche Bazaar
- Altitude: Phakding 2,610 m → Namche Bazaar 3,440 m
- Accommodation: Standard lodge, Namche Bazaar (2 nights)
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
- Highlights: Prayer-flag suspension bridges (including Hillary Bridge), Sagarmatha National Park entry, first glimpse of Everest
Today is set aside for acclimatization, but instead of resting all day, you will take a scenic hike toward Everest View Hotel, one of the best viewpoints in the region, with spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku together. Many trekkers stop here for tea or coffee while enjoying the view.
From Everest View Hotel, the trail continues to Khumjung, a traditional Sherpa village with a monastery said to hold a yeti scalp relic, and a school originally built with support from Sir Edmund Hillary's foundation. After exploring Khumjung, you will walk back down to Namche Bazaar for your second night, giving your body more time to adjust to the altitude.
- Route: Namche Bazaar → Everest View Hotel → Khumjung → Namche Bazaar
- Altitude: Namche 3,440 m → Everest View Hotel 3,880 m (round trip)
- Accommodation: Standard lodge, Namche Bazaar
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
- Highlights: Panoramic Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam views, Khumjung Monastery, Hillary School
Leaving Namche Bazaar, the trail follows a high path along the hillside with clear views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku for much of the walk, one of the most beautiful trails in the Everest region. The path then drops down to Phunki Tenga, a small village beside the river where you will stop for lunch.
After lunch, a steep climb through forest leads up to Tengboche, home to the largest monastery in the Khumbu region. Inside Tengboche Monastery, you can see detailed wall paintings, a large statue of Buddha, and instruments used by the monks during ceremonies. If the timing works out, you can also watch the daily afternoon prayer session.
- Route: Namche Bazaar → Phunki Tenga → Tengboche
- Altitude: Namche 3,440 m → Tengboche 3,860 m
- Accommodation: Lodge, Tengboche
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
- Highlights: Ridgeline views of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam; Tengboche Monastery and afternoon prayer ceremony
From Tengboche, the trail descends through rhododendron forest before crossing the Imja Khola and climbing again into the Imja Valley. Along the way, you will pass through Pangboche, one of the oldest Sherpa villages in the Khumbu region, known for its old monastery.
As the trail continues through traditional Sherpa villages, the landscape becomes wider and more open, with close views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Island Peak. By the afternoon, you will reach Dingboche, a high farming village with stone walls around small fields, where you will stay for two nights.
- Route: Tengboche → Pangboche → Imja Valley → Dingboche
- Altitude: Tengboche 3,860 m → Dingboche 4,410 m
- Accommodation: Lodge, Dingboche (2 nights)
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
- Highlights: Pangboche village and monastery, open views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Island Peak
This is your second important acclimatization day, and it includes an optional hike up to Nagarjun Hill (also known locally as Nangkartshang), a ridge just above Dingboche. The hike takes about 3 to 4 hours round trip and offers wide views of Ama Dablam, Makalu, Lhotse, and Island Peak, making it one of the best viewpoints along the whole trek.
If you prefer a shorter walk, you can also explore Dingboche village itself or take an easier stroll toward the nearby Chhukung Valley. Either way, the goal of the day is to gain some altitude on foot and then come back down to sleep at Dingboche, which helps your body prepare for the higher altitudes ahead.
- Route: Dingboche → Nagarjun Hill / Nangkartshang viewpoint → Dingboche (optional), or Dingboche → Chhukung Valley (alternative)
- Altitude: Dingboche 4,410 m → viewpoint approx. 5,100 m (round trip)
- Accommodation: Lodge, Dingboche
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
- Highlights: Views of Makalu, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Island Peak; second altitude adaptation day
From Dingboche, the trail climbs along the side of the Khumbu Glacier valley, with the terrain becoming rockier and more barren the higher you go. Along the way, you will pass a series of stone memorials built for climbers who lost their lives on nearby peaks, including Everest, with views of the Khumbu Glacier opening up around you.
Lobuche itself is a small group of lodges rather than a full village, but it is a welcome stop after a demanding day on the trail. Please note that at this altitude, lodge choices are limited, so while we book the best available premium lodge, a dedicated luxury-grade lodge is not always available here.
- Route: Dingboche → Thukla → Khumbu Glacier moraine → Lobuche
- Altitude: Dingboche 4,410 m → Lobuche 4,910 m
- Accommodation: Lodge, Lobuche (best available premium lodge; luxury-grade not guaranteed at this altitude)
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
- Highlights: Climbers' memorial site above Thukla, first close views of the Khumbu Glacier
This is one of the biggest days of the trek. From Lobuche, the trail continues along the Khumbu Glacier to Gorak Shep, a small, wind-swept outpost that is the last stop before Base Camp. After dropping your bags at the lodge, you will continue on foot across the rugged glacier terrain to Everest Base Camp itself.
At Everest Base Camp, 5,364 m above sea level, you are as close to the summit of Mount Everest as you can get without climbing gear, with the Khumbu Icefall in clear view ahead of you. Celebrate reaching this legendary Himalayan destination before walking back to Gorak Shep for the night.
- Route: Lobuche → Gorak Shep → Everest Base Camp → Gorak Shep
- Altitude: Lobuche 4,910 m → Gorak Shep 5,170 m → Everest Base Camp 5,364 m
- Accommodation: Lodge, Gorak Shep
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
- Highlights: Standing at Everest Base Camp, close-up views of the Khumbu Icefall
Before sunrise, you will leave Gorak Shep for the climb up to Kala Patthar, the best viewpoint in the entire region at 5,545 m. From the top, you can watch the sun rise over Everest, Nuptse, Pumori, and the surrounding peaks, a view that most trekkers remember as the highlight of the trip.
Return to Gorak Shep for breakfast, then board a scenic helicopter flight directly to Lukla. This replaces two to three days of walking back down the valley and gives you sweeping aerial views of the glacier, the high peaks, and the villages you passed through on foot. Enjoy the rest of the day relaxing in Lukla.
- Route: Gorak Shep → Kala Patthar → Gorak Shep → Lukla (helicopter)
- Altitude: Kala Patthar 5,545 m (highest point of the trip) → Lukla 2,840 m
- Accommodation: Lodge, Lukla
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner
- Highlights: Sunrise over Everest from Kala Patthar, scenic helicopter flight over the Khumbu Glacier and Sherpa villages
A morning flight takes you from Lukla back to Kathmandu, subject to weather and flight operations, marking the end of the trekking part of your trip. On arrival, a private vehicle will transfer you to your luxury hotel.
The rest of the day is free. This is a good time to rest, book a spa treatment, or simply relax after time in the mountains. Our staff can help arrange anything you would like to do in the evening.
- Route: Lukla → Kathmandu (flight) → Hotel (private transfer)
- Altitude: Kathmandu 1,400 m
- Accommodation: 5-star hotel, Kathmandu
- Meals: Breakfast
- Highlights: Return flight over the foothills, free afternoon, optional spa treatment
After breakfast, a private guide and vehicle will take you around some of the most important heritage sites in Kathmandu Valley. You will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, the old royal palace complex with historic temples and courtyards, followed by Swayambhunath, also called the Monkey Temple, a hilltop stupa with wide views over the city. You will also visit Pashupatinath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu temples in the world, and Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in Nepal.
If time allows and you would like some free time, you can also go shopping in Thamel, Kathmandu's main tourist area known for gear shops, souvenirs, and cafes, or book a spa session before the evening.
In the evening, the group will gather for a special farewell dinner at a fine restaurant in Kathmandu to celebrate the completion of the trek and share memories from the trail.
- Route: Hotel → Kathmandu Durbar Square → Swayambhunath → Pashupatinath → Boudhanath Stupa (private guide & vehicle)
- Altitude: 1,400 m
- Accommodation: 5-star hotel, Kathmandu

One of our representatives will accompany you to the terminal to make sure your check-in goes smoothly.
