Itinerary

 

Day 1: Flight from Kathmandu (1,400 m) to Lukla (2,840 m) and trek to Phakding (2,610 m)

 

Your adventure begins with breakfast in Kathmandu, followed by a transfer to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu Airport for a scheduled morning flight to Lukla. This 30-minute scenic flight provides stunning views of the lush green valleys and the snow-covered Himalayan peaks. Upon landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, you will meet your porters and trekking crew who will accompany you throughout the journey.

 

From Lukla, the trek officially starts. After a few hours of walking through beautiful landscapes, you will arrive at the village of Phakding. This first day’s hike is intentionally kept short to allow for proper acclimatization. For those interested, there is an option to visit a nearby monastery as a side trip.

Day 2: Trek from Phakding (2,610 m) to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)

 

On the second day of your 12-day Everest Base Camp Trek, you will journey through a serene pine forest and follow the Dudh Koshi River, crossing multiple suspension bridges along the way. One highlight of the day is crossing the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge. During the trek, you’ll enjoy stunning views of Mount Thamserku (6,618 m).

 

As the trail progresses, you’ll pass through the settlements of Benkar and Monjo, eventually reaching the Sagarmatha National Park entrance and checkpoint. Continuing onward, you’ll pass through Jorsale, the last village before Namche Bazaar.

 

The trail then ascends through forests and across bridges until you reach the confluence of the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi Rivers. After a steep two-hour ascent, you’ll catch your first glimpse of Mount Everest, framed by the Lhotse and Nuptse ridges. From here, it’s another hour and a half of trekking to reach Namche Bazaar.

 

Namche Bazaar serves as the gateway to the Everest Base Camp Trek and is the main trading hub of the Everest region.

You can also visit the Tourist Visitor Center near the Sagarmatha National Park headquarters. As you ascend through the Khumbila Khola Valley and reach the ridge top, you’ll be rewarded with awe-inspiring views of towering peaks, including Taboche (6,495 m), Thamserku (6,608 m), Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Nuptse (7,861 m), Cholatse (6,440 m), and Lhotse (8,516 m). Finally, you will arrive at Dingboche after following the trail alongside the Imja Khola River.

Along the way, you’ll pass several memorials marked with prayer flags and stones, dedicated to climbers who lost their lives on their journey to Mt. Everest.

 

Afterward, you will follow the trail that connects Gokyo Lakes and the Cho-La Pass. On the way, enjoy views of majestic peaks such as Khumbuste (6,636 m), Lingtren (6,749 m), and Pumori (7,161 m). The challenging terrain may cause fatigue, but the spectacular scenery is worth the effort. Lobuche is a small settlement, with only a few dwellings in the area.

Along the way, you’ll pass the iconic pyramid signpost, and a gradual ascent will lead you to Thangma Riju, where you’ll be rewarded with a 360-degree view of snow-covered peaks.

 

Upon reaching Gorakshep, you’ll be greeted by spectacular views of surrounding snow-capped mountains, with Mount Everest towering above. From Gorakshep, you will continue your trek to Everest Base Camp. Kala Patthar is one of the best viewpoints on this trek. From here, you’ll witness the first rays of sunlight illuminating Mount Everest in all its glory. Other notable peaks, including Lingtren, Mount Khumbutse, and Mount Changtse, will stand tall to the east, while Everest itself emerges majestically between the west shoulder crest and Nuptse.

 

After taking in the stunning scenery and capturing photos, you’ll spend some time at Kala Patthar before descending back to Gorakshep. After breakfast, you will continue your descent to Pheriche for an overnight stay.

The trek continues to Pangboche, where you can visit the oldest monastery in the region, which is said to house the scalp and bones of the legendary Yeti.

 

As you leave the mountains behind, you will descend past Tengboche Monastery (3,860 m) before finally arriving back in Namche Bazaar.

Eventually, you’ll reach Lukla, where you’ll spend the night and reflect on your journey.
