The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek stands out as one of the most picturesque journeys in the world, offering a passage through diverse climates, striking landscapes, and culturally rich villages. Widely regarded as a classic trekking route in Nepal, it allows adventurers to experience breathtaking mountain views without requiring overly strenuous effort.
This trek seamlessly combines a rich cultural experience with unparalleled natural beauty. Along the way, travelers traverse terraced fields, charming Gurung villages, and lush forests, encountering a wide range of flora and fauna. Setting out on the ABC trek feels like embarking on one of the most extraordinary adventures imaginable.
Situated at an altitude of 4,130 meters, Annapurna Base Camp serves as a gateway to the awe-inspiring Mount Annapurna, the world’s 10th-highest peak at 8,091 meters. This iconic trek draws adventurers from across the globe, offering a unique blend of natural splendor and cultural immersion. Entering the Annapurna Sanctuary, trekkers find themselves in a magnificent amphitheater encircled by snow-capped peaks, including Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna South (7,219 m), Machapuchhre (6,993 m), and Hiunchuli (6,441 m).
From the very beginning, the Annapurna range treats visitors to breathtaking views, starting right in Pokhara. The trek is renowned for its dramatic changes in altitude and ecosystem, making it a truly exceptional expedition. It also includes highlights such as the famous Poon Hill viewpoint and the relaxing natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda.
Though temporarily challenging, the ABC trek is enjoyable and filled with unforgettable moments. Compared to other high-altitude treks, it is relatively shorter and less demanding, making it accessible to any fit individual with determination. Typically completed within 12 days, the trek offers stunning vistas of the Himalayan region without excessive physical strain.
Passing through the Annapurna Conservation Area, the trail winds through narrow valleys, verdant forests, and biodiverse ecosystems, home to over 1,226 species of flowering plants, 474 bird species, and numerous mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Rare animals like the red panda and Himalayan monal can occasionally be spotted amidst the lush greenery.
The journey meanders through vibrant rhododendron forests, terraced rice fields, bamboo groves, and fern-covered landscapes, especially between Ghandruk and Chomrung. From Sinuwa onwards, the trail enters denser forests, dominated by towering oaks and trees with thick bark, such as Daphne, used by locals for making paper. As trekkers ascend toward Deurali, dense forests give way to alpine grasslands dotted with boulders and flowering plants, creating a captivating transition in scenery.
Three dense forest stretches are particularly notable for their beauty. The first begins near Chomrung and extends to New Bridge. The second lies along the Modi Khola, where the roaring river remains hidden by thick foliage. The final stretch starts after Bamboo and continues to Dovan. Each section of forest adds to the trek’s charm, allowing travelers to experience these enchanting environments multiple times.
Every turn on this trail reveals something new, whether it’s the breathtaking mountain vistas or insights into Nepalese life.
Trekkers have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the traditions and lifestyles of the Gurungs, Magars, Thakalis, and Lobas, whose villages are nestled against the Himalayan foothills. The cultural richness of these communities is evident in their architecture, religious shrines, and tranquil way of life. Small Buddhist gumbas and shrines punctuate the route, offering a glimpse into the spiritual heritage of the region.
Ghandruk, the largest village in the area, exemplifies the cultural and natural beauty of this trek. As travelers pass through banana plantations, paddy fields, and quaint settlements, they gain a profound appreciation for the vibrant tapestry of life in the Annapurna region. The ABC trek is a harmonious blend of scenic splendor, cultural richness, and natural diversity, offering an unforgettable experience within just over a week.

After spending a night at Tadapani, the following morning, we leave Tadapani for Chomrong (2,165m / 7,105ft). The path takes us through Ghandruk that descents to the Kirmron River, and we continue our hike to Chomrong. Chomrong is a popular overnight stop for ABC trekkers.
The following day we will wake up at Chomrong, have our breakfast, and start our trek to Himalaya (2,890m / 9,425ft). The path follows the Chomrong River through a picturesque village and ascends to Modi River Valley until we reach Himalaya for the night.

The following morning, we leave Bamboo and trek to Jhinu Danda (1,780m / 6,393ft). Jhinu Danda hosts natural hot springs where we can relax and soothe our tired muscles.
If everything goes fine, on our tenth day, we leave Jhinu Danda following the Modi Khola to reach Ghandruk Phedi (1,150m / 3,770ft). From Ghandruk Phedi / Siwa, we will drive to Pokhara via Nayapul. This is your last day in the trekking region, and you will be spending a night at a hotel in Pokhara. Early morning the next day, we will return to Kathmandu on a tourist bus.
