Phurtemba Sherpa is a highly experienced mountain guide, former high-altitude porter, and the visionary founder of Destination Holiday Treks. Like many Sherpas of his generation, Phurtemba did not have the opportunity to attend formal schooling. Instead, he spent his childhood supporting his family and assisting his father. At just 14 years old, he began working in the mountains, starting from the very bottom. Over the past 15+ years, he has gained extensive experience in a variety of roles—including porter, kitchen staff, sardar, and climbing guide—across numerous trekking and expedition companies. Through his dedication, humility, and unwavering commitment, Phurtemba has earned the respect and admiration of both colleagues and clients. Today, he leads Destination Holiday Treks with the same passion, integrity, and professionalism that have defined his extraordinary journey.

  • Despite having limited formal education, Furtemba Sherpa established his own travel company through humility, determination, and extensive mountain experience—qualities that have become his greatest strengths. He has participated in numerous Himalayan expeditions and has traveled widely around the world. Among his most valuable international experiences is his professional work in Japan, where he successfully climbed Mount Fuji, Mount Yari-dake, and several other peaks, gaining broad mountaineering and cultural experience.
  • Today, he organizes trekking and expedition programs in Nepal through Destination Holiday Treks & Expedition, working closely with Japanese-speaking clients as well as travelers from English-speaking countries. When organizing treks in the Nepal Himalayas, Furtemba and his team are committed to creating unforgettable experiences, with client safety as their highest priority.
  • Equally important to him is the well-being of his team. Having lived the life of a porter himself, he understands the challenges firsthand and ensures that all staff are fairly paid, fully insured, and treated with dignity and respect.
  • The entire Destination Holiday Treks team is deeply aware of the social and environmental impacts of travel. Every journey is organized with respect for the mountains, local communities, and cultural heritage. The company specializes in small-group travel, allowing guests to share meaningful stories and authentic experiences.
  • Furtemba Sherpa was born in a small farming village in Solukhumbu Rural Municipality-5, eastern Nepal. Coming from a humble background, he grew up in a modest household with limited financial means. At the age of 16, he left school and his village for Kathmandu in search of opportunities to support his family. He began his career as a porter and gradually advanced to become a Sherpa staff member in both trekking and expedition groups.
  • In 2001, while still an amateur climber, Furtemba received his first authorization to work as a climbing guide in the Everest region. He has successfully summited Mount Everest (8,849 m) three times and has also climbed numerous other Himalayan peaks over the years.
