Your Helambu Circuit Trek officially begins today. After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, you will drive to Sundarijal. This area is surrounded by lush oak and rhododendron forests, and you’ll also find beautiful waterfalls, which make it a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy the natural beauty.
From Sundarijal, your trek starts with a steep climb. After about an hour, you will reach the entrance to Shivapuri National Park. The trail then takes you up a series of narrow stone steps, leading to the village of Mulkharka.
As you continue trekking through tranquil farmlands, dense forests, and the charming village of Borlang Bhanjyang, you will eventually arrive at Chisapani. This is a well-known spot for short treks around Kathmandu. From here, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of several mountain ranges, including Jugal Himal, Ganesh Himal, Himal Chuli, Gauri Shanker, Rolwaling, Dorje Lakpa, and various peaks from the Langtang Himalayas. Additionally, you can enjoy panoramic views of the valleys below and a stunning sunrise.

If the weather is clear in the early morning, Chisapani provides a spectacular panoramic view of the Langtang Himal range. The trail for today will begin with a descent as you head toward the village of Pati Bhanjyang, crossing through charming meadows and farmland. You’ll then continue to the Sherpa settlement of Thankune Bhanjyang, which is surrounded by stunning natural beauty.
As you trek onward, you’ll encounter terraced farmlands and paths that lead into local forests. After passing through the Sherpa village of Chipling, you’ll continue towards the Tamang villages of Thotung and Golphu Bhanjyang. From there, you’ll ascend for about 1.5 hours to reach a ridge, followed by a 45-minute descent to your final destination for the day, Kutumsang.
Kutumsang, with its traditional houses and mist-laden hillsides, will offer you a beautiful view of Dorje Lhakpa’s sharp peak. This marks the end of your trekking for the day.

On this day, you will ascend over 1200 meters in elevation as you make your way towards Thadepati Bhanjyang, the highest point of your Helambu Circuit Trek. The first leg of the journey takes you to Yurin Danda ridgeline, where you will begin to catch glimpses of the Langtang range, Gosaikunda Peak, and Jugal Himal.
As you continue uphill, the trail becomes a bit more challenging, taking you to Mera Danda. From there, you’ll start descending toward Mangengoth, a small settlement. Your path leads you onward to Tharepati, where breathtaking views of the Langtang ranges greet you. The panoramic scenery from this point is one of the highlights of the trek.
You’ll arrive at a ridge just above the settlement, an ideal spot for witnessing a stunning sunrise. Afterward, the trek continues eastward, passing through a beautiful pine forest on a steep descent. Eventually, you’ll reach a ridge, and from there, the trail takes you down into Melamchi Gaon, a larger Sherpa village where you will rest for the night.

On this day, your trek will begin with a descent from Melamchi Gaon to the Melamchi Khola. You will pass through several Buddhist villages, such as Nakote, Dozum, and Chiri, which are known for their serene atmosphere and traditional architecture. The settlement of Tarkeghyang gets its name from the famous monastery located here, the oldest in the entire Helambu region. These villages provide a unique experience, offering a glimpse into the lifestyle of the people in the western part of Nepal.
The route continues southwest from Tarkeghyang, following smooth and gently descending trails through forests. As you approach Setighyang, you will cross several small streams and walk through rice fields, as well as pass by more picturesque villages. Further along, you will arrive at Ghangyul. After about 4 to 5 hours of trekking, you will reach Sermathang, a quaint village known for its scenic beauty.
Sermathang is home to three significant gompas, adding to the cultural richness of the region. From this village, you can enjoy stunning views of the Jugal Himal, Dorje Lakpa, and Gaurishankar, with the peaks rising majestically to the east.

After a relaxed breakfast in Sermathang, you’ll start your descent, passing through rice paddies and expansive meadows. As you approach Melamchi Pul Bazaar, a Sherpa village, you’ll cross several small bridges and pass through more villages that are marked by traditional chortens and mani walls. This section of the trek takes about 5 to 6 hours. Upon reaching Melamchi Pul Bazaar, a place with plenty of guesthouses, you will conclude the trekking portion of your journey. The bazaar is also connected to the main road, where your transport will be waiting to take you back to Kathmandu.

On the final day of your trek, you will journey back to Kathmandu, which takes approximately 5 hours. The trip begins with a bumpy ride on a dirt road, but after an hour, you will reach Dhulikhel, a traditional Newar town located on the eastern edge of the Kathmandu Valley. The route then follows the Tibet-Nepal Arniko Highway, passing through the towns of Banepa and Bhaktapur on your way back to the capital.
Once you reach Kathmandu, check into your hotel and take time to rest after your journey. Later, you can enjoy some leisure time by exploring the lively streets of Kathmandu, perhaps shopping or visiting some local attractions. In the evening, you have the opportunity to experience the vibrant nightlife of Thamel, marking the end of your unforgettable Helambu Circuit Trek.
